First Disc Golf Tournament in Cenla at Lake Buhlow November 10th
The first disc golf tournament to be held in Central Louisiana will take place on November 10th at the Lake Buhlow Recreation Area. The Red River Rendezvous is sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association and is a Southern Nationals Disc Golf Championship qualifier.
The tournament will have divisions for Novice (beginners) up to Professionals. Seniors up to age 80 have registered. Organizers expect approximately 60 competitors to attend from all corners of the state and as far away as New Mexico.
Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc, or FrisbeeŽ. A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a target which is the "hole". It is one of the fastest growing recreational sports in the world and is played by people of all ages, walks of life, and fitness levels. The sport shares the same joys and frustrations of traditional golf, whether it's sinking a long putt or hitting a tree halfway down the fairway.
Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. on day of tournament at the baseball field at the park. Online registration is available at www.pdgasignup.com. Tournament Directors for this are David Roberts (225) 330-9094 and Alan Byrd (318) 250-5630.
